A Climate Obstruction Enviro Show

Greetings Earthlings. You may recall on our last show we spoke of
Climate Obstruction: A Global Assessment"? One of the editors, Jennifer Jacquet joins us this week for a deeper dive into the details. As always, we will introduce you to this week's Fool-on-the-Hill, "Who Left the Door Open" and "Those Whose Brains Were small.." as well as our "...of the Week" segments, The Enviro Show Echo Chamber and more but first it's time for.......Revenge of the Critters! African bikers beware.

This week's Fool-on-the-Hill is another Repugnican repeat offender, Texas MAGA freakshow Chip Roy who, once again made a fool of himself in the wake of His Malignancy's State of the Union clown show"The main message here was the stark contrast between the optimism of President Trump, the direction we want to take the country, and Democrats sitting in their seats refusing to stand up and celebrate this great country. I think it was a clear contrast. President Trump delivered a home run of a message tonight." Home run??  😏 More like game over.

Our Doublespeak of the Week goes to all those so-called Christian Nationalists out there. We were reminded by Bishop William J. Barber recently that: "There's Nothing Christian About "Christian" Nationalism - MAGA’s madness is not an alternative interpretation of Christianity. It is anti-Christ."  Further: "When they claim that the Constitution does not constrain them from knocking a door down and raiding someone’s home without a judicial warrant, they cannot claim God’s blessing. When they shoot someone down in the street and then lie to justify the murder, they cannot pretend to serve the divine law that says, “Thou shall not kill.” When they pretend that international law does not prevent them from taking over another sovereign nation and managing its resources as they see fit, they cannot pretend to be serving some higher law. When they abdicate their moral responsibility to care for the poor and vulnerable by spreading lies about “waste, fraud and abuse” and dramatically cutting essential government services, they cannot do so in Jesus’ name." Amen.

We have some encouraging news in The Enviro Show Echo Chamber from Amherst Indy. First is an action at the Target Store in Hadley, MA  where "A group of 11 Western Mass locals interrupted business as usual at the Target store at the Hampshire Mall on Valentine’s Day to protest the corporation’s collaboration with ICE’s ongoing campaign of violence. The protestors entered the store at around 3 p.m. and spent about 25 minutes moving down the aisles singing songs, holding signs with anti-ICE slogans, and handing out chocolate, anti-ICE Valentines, and informational flyers to store patrons." We have an Action Link regarding other corporados HERE.  Also, Free Speech for People reported on Instagram: "WE WON! Last night, 9 Amherst, MA Town Councilors UNANIMOUSLY passed a historic resolution asking @mass_ago to prosecute federal ICE agents who violate state law. It also instructs @massgovernor to end any cooperation agreements with ICE. The unlawful kidnappings, assaults and attacks on our neighbors must end. Every single town should demand #ICEOUT NOW." And demand they be de-funded HERE.

Speaking of ICE we have to ask......Who Left the Door Open letting in the likes of Kristie Noem to head the Brownshirts?? Noem's pathetic self-promoting cosplay and lying is bad enough but it gets worse: "..after a Coast Guardsman went overboard last year, the Coast Guard surged search and rescue efforts to find the man. Noem, though, had other ideas. One of the planes, a C-130 being used in the search over the Pacific, had been scheduled to fly detainees from California to Texas. You’d think that would be a lower priority than finding a member of the military lost at sea—particularly because deportation flights can happen any time, but someone struggling not to die in the ocean requires immediate urgency. Nonetheless, Noem yanked the plane from search and rescue efforts to complete the deportation flight instead."  You probably recall her horrific lies about the recent ICE killings in  Minneapolis.  Who left the door open??

We guess it was His Malignancy The Mad King (#NoKings) who left the door open for the likes of Noem and others to sit in his twisted Cabinet of Dr. CaligariThe metaphor seems even more fitting given recent revelations about His Malignancy's history with sex trafficer Epstein. Where do we get these people??  Gov. Gavin Newsom referred to him at COP30 as an "invasive species". Yes, it's dehumanizing but hey, it is what it is. As for other rebukes, the recent ruling in the Supreme Court trashing The Mad King's tariff schemes was a major blow. How about this: Take action: Tell Congress to act now to rein in ICE abuses and stop letting His Malignancy use federal law enforcement as a personal political weapon. You say Congress is run by Repugs, yes but they are starting to peel off the more erratic and corrupt the Executive Branch becomes. That said, His Malignancy and the MAGA fascist freak show are laying the groundwork to throw the upcoming elections.

OK, so let's talk about those fascist MAGA freaks and their corporate enablers, dinosaurs of whom can be said "Their Brains Were small and They Died".  Someday.  But for now, "Pro-Trump Billionaires Want to Control What You Watch" and that lot in Congress want to throw the whole game along with some co-conspirators: "Pro-Trump activists who say they are in coordination with the White House are circulating a 17-page draft executive order that claims China interfered in the 2020 election as a basis to declare a national emergency that would unlock extraordinary presidential power over voting." Naturally, we say NO WAY!The piece goes on: "Article I, Section 4 of the Constitution assigns power to regulate elections to state legislatures and Congress, with no role for the president. A presidential emergency on elections has never been tested in court." May the larger brains on the bench prevail.

Did someone say national emergency? How about the REAL emergency? "It's the Climate Crisis, Stupid!" At the same time His Malignancy and his MAGA minions cook up fake emergencies they're also busy adding fuel to the real emergency.  "The.. Administration is urging other nations to press a tiny Pacific island country to withdraw a United Nations draft resolution supporting strong action to prevent climate change, including reparations for damage caused by any nation that fails to take action....[the] President  has delivered a very clear message: that the U.N. and many nations of the world have gone wildly off track, exaggerating climate change into the world’s greatest threat.” It's the latest move by the  Administration to distance the U.S. from climate change efforts. The International Court of Justice said countries could be in violation of international law if they fail to take measures to protect the planet from climate change, and nations harmed by its effects could be entitled to reparations. All U.N. member states, including major greenhouse gas emitters like the U.S. and China, are parties to the court. That said, the Mad King (#NoKings) thinks he is above the law. This from The Guardian: "Enforcement of environmental laws against major polluters has virtually ground to a halt under the Trump administration, a new analysis of Environmental Protection Agency records from January 2025 to January 2026 shows."

Our Critter of the Week this time is any critter that needs to cross a road to get to where he or she is going. We here on The Enviro Show are sick & tired of seeing dead critters on the roads and highways we travel on. Thankfully there have been efforts to build over and underpasses across some byways out there but not nearly enough. The Endangered Species Coalition informs us: "Overpasses, underpasses, and connected fencing allow animals to move safely between habitats, reducing deadly collisions while protecting drivers and preserving the natural systems wildlife depend on to survive. In places where crossings have been built, wildlife-vehicle collisions have dropped dramatically, saving human lives, preventing injuries, and conserving species at risk of extinction. Now Congress has an opportunity to expand these lifesaving projects nationwide through the Wildlife Road Crossings Program bill." Please contact your members of Congress today and urge them to cosponsor the Wildlife Road Crossings Program bill (H.R. 6078 / S. 3556) to expand wildlife road crossings across the United States. ALSO you can go HERE & HERE.

Finally, our Quote of the Week concerns our focus of the week:

"Climate obstruction involves intentional actions and efforts to slow or block policies on climate change that are commensurate with the current scientific consensus of what is necessary to avoid dangerous human interference with the climate system."

 - Timmons Roberts, J.et al.

After our interview it's on to the Bus Stop Billboard:

First Here's Indivisible Northampton — Swing Left Western Mass's complete daily listing of all the pro-democracy events in WMass:  https://in-slwm.org/wp-content/uploads/Calendar/cal.html.  If you're looking for an easy weekday way to jump into the climate movement, you'll love the State House Stand Out! We gather at the Massachusetts State House in Boston between 10 am and 2 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Saturday February 28, 1pm. Extreme Weather Survivors National Virtual Advocacy Forum. This forum will bring together people from across the country who have been directly affected by extreme weather and want to help shape what comes next. For many survivors, extreme weather doesn’t end when the storm passes. Recovery, rebuilding, and preparing for the next disaster can stretch on for years—and too often, the people most affected are left out of the decisions that affect their lives and communities. This summit is designed to change that by creating space for survivors to connect, learn, and turn lived experience into collective action.

Saturday February 28, 2 – 4pm.  Come learn a novel technique for inviting people to participate in No Kings 3 and other resistance activities!  In this 2-hour training, we'll teach you to engage passers-by using signs that actually attract people to talk with you! You'll get hands-on practice, and learn how to connect with folks to provide info, invite participation, and inspire hope. This is for people who are physically able to stand outdoors holding a sign for an hour or two, and who are willing to make eye contact and talk with folks who walk by. Go HERE

On March 28, we rise again — stronger, broader, and more united than ever.  Every No Kings event is rooted in nonviolent action. We de-escalate conflict, act lawfully, and never bring weapons. When People Power United says “fight,” we mean fierce advocacy — never violence.
