The Mountain Top Removal Enviro Show

Greetings Earthlings. Well, we went to the mountain and the mountain was gone. We get a call-in from Vernon Haltom and maybe Judy Bonds from Coal River Mountain Watch on the grim subject of King Coal and mountain top removal, a truly bogus way to mine coal. As always we’ll check-in with Darth Cheney, the boy emperor and the McSame campaign to see what sort of lame games they’re up to. We’ll get the Enviro Show Quote of the week and some news from the Echo Chamber, but first it’s time for.......Revenge of the Critters! An Enviro Show video blog special! Elephant seal trashes cars! Another good reason to use a bike!

The Enviro Show Quote of the Week comes from Ed Abbey: “Hierarchical institutions are like giant bulldozers--obedient to the whim of any fool who takes the controls.”
Very timely, no? Go Ed!

OK, Glen, hasn’t this gone on long enough? How long before they’re gone anyway? How much more damage can they do?? As we all know by now, the Bush regime wants Congress to give his administration $700 billion dollars to bailout Wall Street, but did you know that the White House blocked the states when they tried to stop predatory lending? Of course we love the blame-game when it comes to the corporados, but how about solutions? Thom Hartmann, Friends of the Earth and others have proposed that a Tobin-style tax on stock trading, options, futures, swaps, and currency trading should be introduced to curb excessive speculation and promote longer-term investing that serves the real economy. Tobin-style tax revenue could be used to help pay for the bailout and address critical social and environmental needs. AND our Enviro Show Blog special Sarah Barracuda’s dead lake.

In the Enviro Show Echo Chamber Grist asks: Is the financial crisis more dire than the climate crisis? And this: Response to financial crisis must address climate crisis too. O, and get THIS, Gore-Al is advocating civil disobedience in response to the climate crisis! Whoa, Al! Why didn't you think of that eight years ago in Florida??

The Community Enviro Health Enviro Show

Greetings Earthlings. We’ve been focusing on the community's health here lately with regard to the proposed expansion of the Northampton dump over the Barnes Aquifer and tonight we’ll be hearing from author/activist, Jeff Conant whose recent book "A Community Guide to Environmental Health" seems right up our alley. As always we’ll be checking in on Darth Cheney, the boy emperor, John McSame and Sarah Barracuda (all prime suspects in an organized criminal enterprise disguised as a political party). We’ll checkout some news on the Enviro Show Echo Chamber and have the Quote of the Week, but first it’s time for...Revenge of the Critters! Deer attacks hunter and lawn chair!

Glen? Is it safe to come out yet? Will we ever be rid of the Bush regime? What if John McSame & Caribou Barbie steal the election? Will the Dark Lord continue his rein? We posted the candidates enviro programs on the Indymedia Climate site. Suffice it to say, the McSame/Palin plan is looking....how shall we say? Malnourished? Are we surprised that Grampy McSame (pssst, he’s crazy) failed to mention the climate crisis during his acceptance speech at the RNC? They did however have a group chant: "drill baby, drill!" (is this a Hollywood movie we're in??). We can’t make this stuff up! Once again we find ourselves quoting Thomas Friedman (sorry) who hits the nail on the head regarding McSame: "John McCain has completed his makeover from the greenest Republican to run for president to just another representative of big oil". (Thomas must’ve been listening to our show!) ALSO, that’s the Bush regime’s Minerals Management Service that was caught with their pants down recently. We thought the Repugnicans were God-fearing folk! Drugs? Sex? Graft and corruption? We are shocked, shocked we say!

"The American War" by Simone White takes us to The Enviro Show Quote of the Week which comes from former president Dwight Eisenhower. This is in recognition of Hurricane Ike and the warmongering comments of the Repugnican Vice Presidential candidate with regard to Russia. We'll hear it in Ike's own words.

In The Enviro Show Echo Chamber we checkout Climate Indymedia for a report on the Biotechnology Industry designing nightmare biofuels. AND, speaking of nightmares, checkout this bone-chilling video for our Enviro Show Blog Bonus. And a SPECIAL Blog ACTION Bonus for you is here. Bush bullshits nation for Big Oil…..again

On Saturday, during his regular radio address, George Bush once again played the coastal drilling card for his fellow corporados in Big Oil. We are not surprised. It was on the floor of the Repugnican National Convention last week that we witnessed the drones chanting "drill baby, drill". It seems if the Party of Big Oil had its way we’d see the sprawl of oil rigs off all our coastlines; maybe cropping up in national parks as well.

Bush claimed "the Outer Continental Shelf could eventually produce nearly 10 years' worth of U.S. oil production", when in fact only under three years worth is estimated by the Energy Information Administration. Experts also point out that lifting the congressional ban on offshore drilling would not produce more oil for five to seven years.
Also, Bush once again attempted to blame the Dems for ignoring the public's demand for relief from high energy prices, when in fact it has been the Repugnicans who have held up action in congress. As noted in the Dems radio response to Bush’s address, even Repugs like T-bone Pickens note that "we can’t drill our way out of this mess". But when the Dems tried to put the screws to oil speculators raising prices at the pump or to pressure Big Oil to "use it or lose it" with their existing leases, the Party of Big Oil gridlocks congress with tactics familiar to anyone who ever had to endure College Repugnicans. In fact, it is the GOP that now has the all-time record for the most filibusters in congress. Voters should remember that the next time some Repugnican goes off about a "do-nothing congress"!
