The No Show Enviro Show

[No podcast or  broadcast this time folks. It's all blogging]

Greetings Earthlings. Autumn is almost upon us, time to celebrate the harvest and give thanks to Mother Earth. As always we will introduce you to this week's Fool-on-the-hill and Those Whose Brains Were Small, as well as our "...of the Week" segments and the ever-present reminder that "It's the Climate Crisis, Stupid!" and more but first it's time for Revenge of the Critters! Another shark attack Down Under

This week's Fool-on-the-Hill is, according to HuffPo is "Rep. Bob Onder (R-Mo.) [who] faced backlash... for railing against left-leaning Americans following the killing of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, adding to a choir of conservatives who have blamed Democrats for Kirk’s death, despite limited information on the shooter and their motive."  Onder went on to baselessly accuse Dems "They hate the good, the truth and the beautiful and embraced the evil, the false and the ugly. And they, literally, will kill those with whom they disagree.." Of course, this was days before the shooter was identified as coming from a Repugnican family.

It's no surprise His Malignancy took the same route for our Doublespeak of the Week: "I am filled with grief and anger at the heinous assassination of Charlie Kirk on a college campus in Utah,” [The Prez] said. “Charlie inspired millions, and tonight all who knew him and loved him are united in shock and horror.” [He] continued: “He’s a martyr for truth and freedom, and there’s never been anyone who was so respected by youth.” 😏 After praising Kirk for his commitment to his Christian faith, [He] pivoted to blaming the shooting on the “radical left,” claiming that people who described Kirk as a Nazi are “directly responsible.” Really?? And this: "Kirk Coverage Downplayed MAGA’s Culture of Violence". Surprise! All this was followed up by ABC/Disney suspending comedian Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show after the MAGA FCC Chair leaned on them for Kimmel's FREE SPEECH rights? AG Pam Bondi took the opportunity to do likewise

We guess you're assuming The Mad King's toadies might be the logical follow-up choice for "Their Brains Were Small and They Died" segment and you'd be correct. Common Dreams reports: "An executive order signed Monday by [the] US President may permit “random fascist vigilantes” to help him crack down on protests across the country, according to one prominent civil rights lawyer. The new order, which comes amid wider concern about [His Malignancy's] militarized takeover of Washington, DC, directs Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to ensure that each state’s National Guard is equipped to “assist Federal, State, and local law enforcement in quelling civil disturbances and ensuring the public safety.” And then: [the] "order calls for the creation of “an online portal for Americans with law enforcement or other relevant backgrounds and experience.” Agency heads then “shall each deputize the members of this unit to enforce federal law.”  Alec Karakatsanis, the executive director of the Civil Rights Corps, described it in a post on X as “an online portal to permit random fascist vigilantes to join soldiers,” adding that it was “one of the scariest things I’ve seen in US politics in my adult life.”  We guess Alec never encountered the Brownshirts dinos back in the day. And, one of the creepiest of such dinos is none other than Stephen Miller who said last month: "The Democrat [sic] Party does not fight for, care about, or represent American citizens. It is an entity devoted exclusively to the defense of hardened criminals, gang-bangers, and illegal, alien killers and terrorists. The Democrat Party is not a political party. It is a domestic extremist organization.” Wait, was that another Doublespeak? He said elsewhere he wants to "“dismantle” the organized left using state power"

Our Critter of the Week is one that captures the hearts of kids of all ages and there's good news from Down Under this time because this headline reads: "Australia halts logging for koala haven on eastern coast."  Back in the 1920s "Newspapers reported an estimated 600,000 koalas died due to [an ignorant] massacre, [but] The total is likely close to 800,000...The movement against koala-killing was perhaps the first organized conservationist campaign in Australia. It fostered the creation of wildlife societies, campaigns for national parks and nature studies for school students....Today, koalas are safe from hunters. They're so well known we use them as cuddly diplomats, similar to China's panda diplomacy. But they face new threats—increasingly severe bushfires, disease, and habitat destruction."  Most of that caused by humans......again.

So, a lot from Down Under this week including our friends at The Juice Media and their hilarious take on nuclear power which includes our bogus efforts here in the USA, but not Gov. Healey's nuke dreams introduced by our own Will Nukem in the Franklin County Fair Parade. All of which brings us to remind everyone everywhere that "It's the Climate Crisis, Stupid!" Not content with erasing any hint of the Crisis from federal government agencies "The administration is cranking up efforts to kill state laws and legal cases that would force fossil-fuel companies to pay for climate damage." That and this, taxpayers get to subsidize Big Oil & Gas for the damage! The "administration has already added nearly $40 billion in new federal subsidies for oil, gas, and coal in 2025, a report released Tuesday finds, sending an additional $4 billion out the door each year for fossil fuels over the next decade. That new amount, created with the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act this summer, adds to $30.8 billion a year in preexisting subsidies for the fossil fuel industry." Meanwhile, safe clean energy, the folks who really need those subsidies are scrambling: "Across the country, state leaders are racing to fast-track wind and solar projects before the expiration of federal tax credits to support clean energy."

Let's have a Quote of the Week before we move on to the Bus Stop Billboard:

“There has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump.”

Former Vice President Dick Cheney

Election results, through gerrymandering and the kneecapping of the Voting Rights Act, may be predetermined. The government is rewriting history and is taking over educational systems and universities. The Congress is forfeiting its powers. And this is just the beginning of the list of the indicia of the authoritarianism being imposed by the Trump administration. The talks are free and open to the public.  Whately Town Hall (194 Chestnut Plain Road, Whately, MA) is accessible.
